What this site is

adulting.nyc is an independent data and decision-tool site for New York City families. Its core products are a searchable public-school directory, school comparison and zone tools, and an editorially checked registry of useful NYC family maps, calendars, newsletters, and communities.

The site is published by the adulting.nyc Data Desk. We use software-assisted and AI-assisted workflows for research organization, drafting, and maintenance. We do not use a fictional expert persona or present generated material as first-hand experience.

What the current school data means

School directory
Names, locations, district assignments, grade spans, and program flags come from NYC Department of Education and NYC Open Data records.
Enrollment
School-profile enrollment figures currently come from the 2021–22 NYC DOE Demographic Snapshot. They are historical, not a live seat count.
Elementary school zones
The zone checker queries the live elementary-zone ArcGIS service used by NYC Public Schools School Search. Boundaries and rules can change; families should confirm final eligibility with NYC Public Schools or the school.
Admissions
Deadlines, priorities, and program availability can change during an admissions cycle. A page date never overrides the current NYC Public Schools or MySchools notice.
